Detailed Plot:
The show opens with our narrator, the Phantom of the Opera, introducing
us to the rest of the monsters of Boo Castle (REALLY
SILLY, NOT VERY SCARY). We soon see that they are not
scary at all, but very silly in their own rights: a
vegetarian vampire, a chicken-hearted werewolf who is
tormented by fleas, a mummy that loves to play dress-up,
a Frankenstein monster who’s just a big teddy bear, a
ghost that is required to wear glasses so he won’t sneak
up on the other monsters, the list goes on and on with
just about every monster you’d see on late-night TV.
There’s even the Devil, who is visiting for the weekend.
Halloween is just two days away and the monsters are
arguing over what kind of party to have. Daylight comes
and the monsters retire for the day. In come a group of
school kids looking for a place to hold their school
Halloween party. After deciding that the castle is
perfect (MONSTERS AND FREAKS), the kids head back to
school, planning to return on Saturday to decorate. All
this was overheard by the Devil, who can’t pass up a
good opportunity to cause some mischief– especially
after all the ribbing he’s been receiving lately from
the other monsters. That evening, the monsters awaken
and decide to have a “Come as you are” party. The Witch
tricks the very sober Dr. Jekyll into drinking some root
beer, which transforms him into a very hyper Mr. Hyde.
Soon all the monsters leave to start decorating for the
Halloween party. Hyde transforms back into Dr. Jekyll
just in time to resume work on his secret experiment
(WHATCHAMACALLIT), which turns out to be flea powder for
Wolfie. Saturday morning, the kids arrive to start
setting up for their party. Emily is being especially
bossy as she does everything she can to make sure she
wins the Spirit Award– at the expense of her friends.
They notice the decorating that the monsters have been
doing and a note is found that says one of her
classmates is trying to win the Spirit Award behind
Emily’s back. It’s just about party time, so the kids
get into their costumes (THIS IS GONNA BE A GREAT
PARTY). The monsters arrive for THEIR party and see the
kids dressed in costumes. Both groups– the monsters and
the kids-- assume the other is part of their group. When
they finally realize what has happened both groups are
afraid of the other. When it is discovered that the
Devil is behind the whole mess, they force him to leave
the castle. Emily apologizes for being so bossy and the
monsters and the kids can now enjoy the rest of the
party with their new friends (HAPPY HALLOWEEN AT BOO
CASTLE- FINALE).
Sets:
The action takes place in the main room of Boo Castle.
Various “haunted house” - type decorations are about:
cob webs, standing suit of armor, etc. There are a
couple doors leading offstage. A staircase leading off
would be a nice addition.
